Outreach and Engagement Consultant

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a dynamic Outreach and Engagement Consultant to amplify its science and campaigns across media platforms. Based in Nairobi, you will work closely with the Communications Division to expand the reach of key environmental initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and recruit influencers for World Environment Day and related campaigns to maximise reach and engagement.
• Produce multimedia content supporting UNEP campaigns, including graphics, videos and social media posts.
• Develop partnerships with organisations and stakeholders to strengthen campaign impact.
• Spot opportunities to showcase UNEP’s scientific work and content in local and international media.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communication, social sciences or a related field.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in communications or media‑related activities.
• Fluency in written and spoken English; knowledge of French or another UN language is a plus.
• Ability to work effectively in a multicultural, multidisciplinary team.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of social media platforms and strategic use for communication.
• Understanding of media landscape and pitching strategies.
• Excellent written, verbal and visual communication abilities.
