Safety & Security Intern

About the role

The Safety & Security Intern will support the Operations Coordinator in coordinating safety and security activities for Save the Children’s programmes in Kenya. Working under guidance, the intern will help maintain security processes, support incident reporting and contribute to emergency preparedness.

Key responsibilities

• Liaise with the Admin Team to manage the visitor tracker and ensure all visitors receive a security briefing before travel or within 24 hours of arrival.
• Assist the Operations Coordinator in compiling routine security reports and keeping relevant databases up to date.
• Gather daily security information to support monthly reporting and decision‑making.
• Help plan and prepare logistical support for field visits.
• Update and maintain the security/communication tree, conducting monthly tests.
• Support staff in reporting incidents using the Datix system.
• Assist during staff training sessions related to safety and security.
• Contribute to emergency and contingency planning documentation.
• Ensure security management procedures for emergency response are documented and shared with all staff.
• Provide backup support in emergency response situations.
• Respond to field staff security inquiries and raise technical questions to the Operations Coordinator when needed.
• Inspect and evaluate workplace environments, equipment and practices for regulatory compliance.
• Perform any other related tasks as required.

Required profile

• Ability to work under the guidance of the Operations Coordinator.
• Willingness to have regular contact with children or young people (Child Safeguarding Level 3).

Required skills

• Experience with the Datix incident reporting system.
