Senior Power Plant Operator (NPP)

About the role

Amentum is seeking an experienced Senior Power Plant Operator to manage the North or South Power Plant on Diego Garcia for a critical US Navy program. The role ensures safe, efficient, and reliable power generation during assigned shifts while coordinating closely with the counterpart plant.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise all operations of the assigned power plant (NPP or SPP) during the shift, adhering to safety and procedural standards.
• Communicate and coordinate power demand and equipment operation between the two plants to maintain continuous power delivery.
• Monitor and manage generators, electrical switchboards, fuel supply systems, air compressors, radiator fans, and auxiliary equipment.
• Conduct routine inspections, pre‑operation checks, operational monitoring, and post‑operation reviews.
• Troubleshoot malfunctions, implement corrective actions, and minimize downtime during emergencies.
• Maintain accurate shift logs, operational data, and performance reports.
• Train and mentor shift personnel on procedures and emergency response.
• Collaborate with the Electrical Utility Manager and other supervisors on policy implementation and maintenance schedules.

Required profile

• Minimum five years of power plant operations experience, including supervisory or senior roles.
• Strong knowledge of power generation systems and large‑scale demand coordination.
• Proven ability to lead shift teams and handle emergency situations.
• Excellent communication skills for cross‑plant coordination.
