Teacher of Home Economics

About the role

The Kilkenny and Carlow Education and Training Board is seeking a qualified Home Economics teacher for a fixed‑term position at Coláiste Aindriú. The successful candidate will deliver engaging lessons, assess student progress, and contribute to the school’s wider educational community.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, prepare and deliver Home Economics curriculum in line with the national syllabus.
• Assess student work, provide feedback and maintain accurate records.
• Collaborate with colleagues to develop cross‑curricular projects and support literacy, numeracy and critical thinking.
• Participate in staff meetings, professional development and school events.
• Maintain a safe, inclusive classroom environment.

Required profile

• Registration with the Teaching Council of Ireland (essential) and a current registration certificate.
• Relevant recognised qualification in Home Economics or a related field.
• Demonstrated professional knowledge of the subject and contemporary pedagogy.
• Ability to show evidence of key teaching competencies: professional knowledge, practice, communication and self‑management.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of Home Economics content and syllabus requirements.
• Understanding of teaching and learning theories and their application.
• Effective classroom management and assessment techniques.
