Water Expert (WASH & Technical) – Nairobi, Kenya

About the role

The European Committee for Training and Agriculture (CEFA) is seeking a Water Expert to lead the technical design, implementation and supervision of WASH and related irrigation projects in Kenya. Based in Nairobi, the role involves regular field missions to West Pokot County, ensuring that water and sanitation interventions meet Kenyan legislation and international standards.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and supervise Bill of Quantities and all technical documentation for water and sanitation rehabilitation works.
• Conduct feasibility studies, hydrogeological surveys, flow‑rate calculations and water‑quality analyses for new WASH facilities.
• Obtain necessary licences and authorisations in compliance with Kenyan law.
• Monitor contractors, verify quality of materials, and ensure adherence to safety and environmental procedures.
• Develop tender documents, technical specifications and evaluation criteria, and participate in the selection process.
• Issue work completion certificates and final technical reports upon project hand‑over.

Required profile

• Engineering degree (Civil, Environmental or related) with proven experience in WASH projects.
• Familiarity with Kenyan water legislation and international WASH standards.
• Experience managing multi‑disciplinary teams and coordinating with donors.
• Willingness to travel up to 40 % of the time to field sites.

Required skills

• Preparation of Bill of Quantities and technical specifications.
• Hydrogeological surveying and water‑quality testing.
• Project monitoring and contractor supervision.

What we offer

• Fixed‑term contract for one year, renewable.
• Gross salary range KES 180,000 – 220,000 per month, commensurate with experience.
