Accounts Assistant

About the role

VisionFund Kenya is seeking an Accounts Assistant to support its finance function. Reporting to the Financial Accountant, you will help strengthen internal controls, maintain accurate documentation, and improve the efficiency of financial operations.

Key responsibilities

• Process bank and M-Pesa payments, including supplier invoices, statutory payments, and staff wages.
• Review payroll adjustments, process payroll transactions, and post monthly payroll journals.
• Monitor daily bank balances, manage cash flow reports, and handle short‑term cash requirements.
• Conduct daily and monthly bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
• Maintain and reconcile ledger accounts, post journal entries, accruals, pre‑payments and inter‑company transactions.
• Prepare statutory tax returns and payments (VAT, PAYE, withholding tax, excise duty) ensuring compliance.
• Prepare funded project reports, monitor budgets and generate management reports.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Required profile

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) – Section 3.
• Bachelor of Commerce, Administration, Accounting or Finance.

Required skills

• Basic knowledge of accounting principles.
• Familiarity with accounting software.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Understanding of tax, payroll and statutory compliance concepts.
