AI Engineer – Build Intelligent Backend Systems

About the role

RocketDevs is looking for an AI Engineer with at least two years of experience to design and deliver AI‑driven backend services for global clients. This remote, full‑time contract role focuses on building scalable, intelligent systems that integrate large language models and advanced agent workflows.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend platforms that power AI applications.
• Create and deploy AI agents capable of reasoning, planning, tool usage, and multi‑step workflows.
• Integrate LLMs and AI APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Hugging Face) into production services.
• Build RESTful or GraphQL APIs for AI‑enabled features.
• Develop data pipelines for prompts, embeddings, agent memory, and model outputs.
• Implement vector search and retrieval systems (RAG pipelines, embeddings).
• Optimize AI workflows for performance, cost, and reliability.
• Handle authentication, authorization, and secure access to AI services.
• Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, and sprint planning.

Required profile

• Strong software engineering background with Python (FastAPI, Flask, Django) or Node.js (Express, NestJS).
• Hands‑on experience integrating LLMs or AI APIs into production.
• Experience building AI agents with tool/function calling, multi‑step reasoning, and state management.
• Solid understanding of API design, async processing, and background jobs.
• Proven ability to work with SQL (PostgreSQL, PgVector, MySQL), NoSQL (MongoDB), and vector databases (Pinecone, Weaviate, FAISS, Elasticsearch).
• Familiarity with Redis or similar caching layers.
• Competence with Git, GitHub, Docker, and basic CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience in web scraping and document parsing (HTML, PDFs).
• Portfolio or deployed project demonstrating an AI‑powered backend or agent.
