Aquaculture Technician

About the role

The Aquaculture Technician will support practical training sessions at Mawego Technical Training Institute by managing laboratory activities, maintaining water‑culture systems, and ensuring a safe, well‑organized learning environment for trainees.

Key responsibilities

• Catalogue recordings and provide them on request.
• Coordinate laboratory work to optimise equipment use.
• Enforce health and safety procedures and ensure compliance.
• Clean equipment and store chemicals, drugs and other materials safely.
• Maintain and repair laboratory apparatus and aquaculture equipment.
• Prepare equipment and chemicals for practical lessons.
• Record and track students’ practical session data, methods and results.
• Maintain water quality within culture systems.
• Assist trainees during practical lessons.
• Liaise with academic staff on timetables, equipment needs and work plans.
• Perform any other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Diploma in Aquaculture.
• Minimum three years of relevant experience.
• Knowledge of quality‑assurance and accreditation requirements.
• Strong communication, teamwork and integrity.
