Assistant Manager – Back Office (Lamu)

About the role

The Assistant Manager, Back Office will support the branch’s daily operations in Lamu, ensuring accurate processing of financial transactions and secure handling of cash and valuables. Reporting to senior management, you will lead a small back‑office team while maintaining compliance with banking policies.

Key responsibilities

• Verify electronic funds transfers (EFTs), salary transfers, RTGS, TT and other transaction types.
• Act as second vault custodian, safeguarding cash and valuables.
• Maintain optimal cash levels, manage ATM operations and perform cash reconciliations.
• Store and reconcile serialized stationery for accurate record‑keeping.
• Oversee branch opening, closing and general administrative management.
• Reconcile branch suspense accounts and ensure timely processing of outward clearing items.
• Manage leave, appraisals, KPIs and coaching for the back‑office team.
• Respond to customer queries related to back‑office services.
• Compile reports, handle audit issues and ensure adherence to risk and compliance procedures.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Banking or a related field.
• Minimum two years of relevant experience in a similar back‑office role within a comparable organization.
• Strong planning, organizational and analytical abilities.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• High ethical standards, integrity and sound judgment.
• Commercial awareness and ability to align activities with business goals.

Required skills

• Proficiency in handling EFT, RTGS, TT and cash management processes.
• Experience with vault and ATM operations.
• Ability to produce accurate financial and audit reports.
