Backend Developer (Node.js & APIs)

About the role

We are looking for a Backend Developer to design, build and maintain high‑performance server‑side services for our fintech platform. You will work closely with product, frontend and QA teams to deliver secure, scalable APIs that handle large transaction volumes.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test and maintain backend services and RESTful APIs.
• Build scalable, secure systems capable of processing high‑volume financial transactions.
• Integrate third‑party payment providers and mobile‑money platforms.
• Optimize database performance, write efficient queries and manage data stores.
• Collaborate with frontend developers, product managers and QA to deliver new features.
• Troubleshoot production issues and implement timely fixes.
• Ensure code quality through testing, documentation and peer reviews.
• Apply security best practices, including authentication, encryption and OWASP guidelines.
• Participate in architecture discussions, technical planning and performance monitoring.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field.
• At least 3 years of professional backend development experience.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
• High attention to detail and ownership mindset in a fast‑paced environment.

Required skills

• Node.js (preferred) with TypeScript or JavaScript.
• Frameworks such as Express.js and NestJS.
• Databases: PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis.
• API development: REST, GraphQL, JWT/OAuth authentication.
• Containerisation with Docker and Linux server management.
• CI/CD pipelines and version control using Git, GitHub or GitLab.
• Cloud deployment experience on AWS, Azure or DigitalOcean.
• Security practices: OWASP principles, rate limiting, API protection.
• Familiarity with microservices, message queues (RabbitMQ, Kafka) and automated testing.
