Billing Assistance Internship

About the role

AMREF Flying Doctors is seeking a Billing Assistance Intern to support the financial and technical aspects of its medical assistance services. The role involves handling invoices, cost estimation, and client queries while working closely with the Medical Assistance and Payables teams.

Key responsibilities

• Follow up daily on invoices from service providers, upload them to the M‑files portal, and ensure timely payment processing.
• Clarify and resolve discrepancies on incorrectly billed invoices, focusing on high‑value items to contain costs.
• Compile service cost lists and generate interim pro‑forma estimates for the credit control team.
• Produce final cost estimates for closed cases, especially during month‑end periods.
• Assist with billing queries and patient refunds from assistance partners.
• Support the Payables team in reconciling service provider statements, particularly for top‑tier hospitals.
• Answer telephone calls in the Control Room and respond to clients professionally.
• Participate in departmental meetings and provide general administrative support.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Accounting, Finance or a related business field.
• At least CPA Part 1 or equivalent qualification.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent customer service and ability to work both independently and in a team.

Required skills

• Proficiency with the MS Office Suite.
• Knowledge of an accounting system (preferred).
• Familiarity with data collection methods.
• Experience with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems.
