About the role
The Chief of Section, Programme Management (TMAT) leads the IED Threat Mitigation Advisory Team within UNMAS, reporting to the UNMAS Director in New York and collaborating with the Office of Military Affairs. Based in Nairobi, the role oversees policy guidance, strategic development, and implementation of advisory, training and capacity‑building activities.
Key responsibilities
- Provide policy guidance on IED and explosive ordnance threat mitigation and develop conceptual strategies.
- Plan, lead and ensure quality assurance of advisory, training and capacity development programmes, adhering to international standards and UN policies.
- Manage and supervise the Section’s work programme, coordinating internal drafts and reviews.
- Engage with Member State representatives to build partnerships and deliver technical support.
- Mobilise donor resources, track expenditures and produce timely financial and programme reports.
- Prepare position papers and reports for intergovernmental bodies such as the Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budget Questions and the General Assembly.
- Contribute to bi‑annual and annual reporting on budget and programme performance.
Required profile
- Extensive experience in IED and explosive remnants of war threat mitigation.
- Proven track record in programme management, policy development and implementation.
- Strong ability to coordinate with UN agencies, donors and Member States.
- Experience preparing reports and position papers for intergovernmental bodies.
