Chinese Translator for Power Engineering Projects

About the role

We are looking for a fluent Mandarin‑English translator to support a power engineering company based in Nairobi. The successful candidate will facilitate clear communication between Chinese management, suppliers and local staff on technical and business matters.

Key responsibilities

• Translate verbal and written communications between Chinese and English accurately.
• Interpret during meetings, site visits, training sessions and negotiations.
• Translate technical documents, reports, contracts, manuals and correspondence.
• Assist Chinese teams in communicating with local staff and clients.
• Maintain the correct meaning, tone and technical context in all translations.
• Support communication with Chinese suppliers, contractors and partners.
• Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
• Perform additional translation and administrative duties as required.

Required profile

• Fluency in Mandarin Chinese and English.
• Diploma or degree in Chinese Language, Translation, Linguistics, Business or related field (preferred).
• At least five years of translation or interpreting experience, preferably in engineering, construction, manufacturing or power sectors.
• Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Willingness to travel to project sites when needed.
• Commitment to confidentiality.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
