Commis / Cook

About the role

The kitchen team at Jaysur Cognitive Management Limited is looking for an enthusiastic Commis/Cook to support daily food preparation and service in our Westlands location. This entry‑level position offers hands‑on experience in a busy hospitality environment, working closely with senior chefs.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in preparing and cooking meals following established recipes and standards.
• Portion and prep ingredients such as vegetables, meats, sauces and garnishes.
• Support senior chefs with daily kitchen preparation and food production.
• Maintain high standards of food quality, presentation, taste and consistency.
• Ensure proper storage, labeling and handling of all food items.
• Keep workstations, equipment and storage areas clean and hygienic.
• Follow food safety, hygiene and HACCP procedures at all times.
• Monitor inventory, report shortages or waste, and help control food costs.
• Operate kitchen equipment safely and assist during busy service periods, events and special functions.
• Assist with receiving and checking kitchen supplies when required.

Required profile

• Certificate or Diploma in Food Production, Culinary Arts, Hospitality Management or related field.
• 1–2 years experience as a Commis, Cook, Kitchen Assistant or similar hospitality role.
• Basic knowledge of food preparation and cooking techniques.
• Understanding of food hygiene and safety standards.
• Ability to follow recipes, SOPs and work effectively as part of a team.
• Good time‑management, attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
• Physically fit for extended periods in a busy kitchen.
• Professional, disciplined, reliable and eager to learn.
