Communication Intern

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a Communication Intern to support its Climate Action Pillar. Based in the UNEP Communication Division in Nairobi, the intern will assist with a range of communications activities that promote UNEP’s environmental agenda.

Key responsibilities

• Support coordination and launch of climate‑related publications.
• Assist in outreach and distribution of UNEP reports and campaigns to target audiences and partners.
• Update climate‑related web pages to ensure accurate, current content.
• Help plan and deliver climate events and campaign activations.
• Track communications outputs and funded deliverables for internal and donor reporting.
• Prepare meeting notes and follow up on agreed actions.
• Lead selected initiatives under supervision.
• Liaise with editorial, multimedia, social media, web, and translation teams.
• Apply basic design skills to create presentations, social media assets, and other materials.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or completed a graduate programme (Master’s/Ph.D.) or the final year of a bachelor’s programme.
• Preferred fields of study: Communication, International Affairs, or Environment‑related disciplines.
• No prior professional experience required.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Word.
• Proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Teams.
