Cyber Security Officer

About the role

The Cyber Security Officer will protect Chuka University’s information systems, networks and digital assets from cyber threats. Reporting to the Head of ICT, the role involves implementing security controls, monitoring risks, responding to incidents and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor, detect, investigate and respond to cybersecurity incidents.
• Implement and maintain firewalls, antivirus, IDS/IPS and endpoint protection solutions.
• Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and penetration testing.
• Monitor network traffic for suspicious activity and security breaches.
• Develop, enforce and update cybersecurity policies, procedures and standards.
• Perform security audits, risk assessments and recommend mitigation measures.
• Manage identity and access controls, including authentication and authorization systems.
• Ensure compliance with cybersecurity laws, regulations and institutional policies.
• Prepare comprehensive incident reports and support disaster recovery and business continuity initiatives.
• Deliver cybersecurity awareness and training programmes for staff.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Cyber Security, Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems or a related field.
• Minimum two years of post‑qualification experience in cybersecurity, information security or ICT security.
• Demonstrated knowledge of network security protocols and technologies.
• Experience with vulnerability assessment, penetration testing and security audits.
