Data Scientist – Fraud Detection

About the role

We are looking for a Data Scientist to lead the fight against fraud at Moniepoint. In this high‑impact position you will design, prototype and ship machine‑learning models that protect millions of customers and merchants across our platform.

Key responsibilities

• Prototype, evaluate and productionize machine‑learning models for fraud detection, and manage their monitoring and retraining cycles.
• Design and run experiments to assess the impact of fraud interventions, balancing customer experience with loss reduction.
• Size fraud typologies across product lines to guide prioritisation and investment decisions.
• Build and maintain anomaly‑detection systems to surface emerging fraud vectors before they scale.
• Collaborate with fraud operations, engineers, product managers and data analysts to translate model outputs into real‑world mitigations.

Required profile

• Degree in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science or similar.
• 3+ years of experience in data science, decision science or risk analytics, preferably within fraud, payments or financial crime.
• Hands‑on experience building and deploying machine‑learning models in production.
• Strong grounding in experimentation, statistical inference, model evaluation and feature engineering.
• Ability to work in fast‑paced, cross‑functional teams with high ownership expectations.
