Early Warning Expert (Consultant)

About the role

The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) is seeking an Early Warning Expert on a consultancy basis to support the implementation of the Water at the Heart of Climate Action (WHCA) project in Uganda. The role will focus on strengthening multi‑hazard early warning systems and coordinating activities with the Office of the Prime Minister and consortium partners.

Key responsibilities

• Support the roll‑out of the early warning project in Uganda, focusing on risk‑knowledge thematic areas.
• Assist national stakeholders in establishing and operationalising the national situation room and linking it to emergency coordination centres and the Africa Multi‑Hazard Early Warning and Action System (AMHEWAS).
• Lead in‑country coordination of WHCA activities in collaboration with the Office of the Prime Minister, UNDRR and the consortium coordinator.
• Plan and deliver WHCA country project activities, strengthening multi‑hazard early warning systems.

Required profile

• Proven experience in early warning project implementation and disaster risk reduction.
• Familiarity with national situation rooms, emergency coordination centres and AMHEWAS.
• Ability to work remotely and coordinate with government ministries and UN partners.
