Electrical Engineer – Retail Construction

About the role

RSD BuildCo is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join its Nairobi team, focusing on retail and hospitality fit‑out projects across Africa. The role involves designing, reviewing and supporting electrical systems from concept through commissioning, ensuring compliance with local codes and client requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Develop electrical layouts, schematics and technical drawings for retail construction and fit‑out projects.
• Perform load calculations, power distribution and lighting design to meet project specifications.
• Coordinate with architects, civil engineers, project managers and contractors throughout the project lifecycle.
• Inspect, test and commission electrical installations on site, troubleshooting issues and recommending improvements.
• Ensure all work complies with applicable electrical codes, standards and safety regulations.
• Provide technical guidance and documentation to multidisciplinary teams and clients.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Strong foundation in power distribution, lighting design and low‑voltage systems for commercial construction.
• Experience in retail, commercial or hospitality construction projects, preferably within the African market.
• Ability to work on‑site in Nairobi and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

Required skills

• Proficiency with electrical design and drafting tools such as AutoCAD.
• Load calculation and power distribution analysis.
• Lighting design for commercial environments.
• Knowledge of local electrical codes and safety regulations.
