About the role

BirdLife International is seeking a Finance Assistant to support partner financial reporting, ensure donor compliance, and strengthen the financial management capacity of partner organisations, particularly in Madagascar. The role combines technical review, capacity‑building, and general finance support within an international conservation NGO.

Key responsibilities

  • Review partner financial reports for accuracy, completeness, and donor compliance.
  • Verify supporting documentation and conduct budget‑to‑actual analyses, highlighting variances.
  • Follow up with partners on queries, prepare review reports, and make recommendations to management.
  • Support planning and delivery of financial management training, develop materials, and mentor partner finance staff.
  • Assist partners in understanding donor regulations, financial policies, and reporting requirements.
  • Monitor partner compliance with grant agreements, support financial monitoring visits, and track reporting deadlines.
  • Maintain organized records of partner reports and documentation.
  • Prepare financial analyses, support audits and donor reviews, and perform other finance and administrative duties as assigned.
  • Occasional travel to partner sites as needed.

Required profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or a related field.
  • Professional accounting qualification (CPA, ACCA or equivalent) is an advantage.
  • Experience in accountancy, financial management and administration, preferably in an international, multicultural environment.
  • Experience working for an NGO is desirable.
