GESI, Protection & Safeguarding Advisor – Border Security Programme

About the role

The GESI, Protection & Safeguarding Advisor will lead the integration of gender equality, protection and safeguarding principles across the Border Security Programme (BSP). Working from Nairobi, the advisor will shape strategy, guide partners and ensure that programme activities minimise risk and uphold human rights for vulnerable populations.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and embed protection and safeguarding approaches aligned with Do No Harm and human‑rights standards.
• Lead risk analysis and create mitigation plans that incorporate GESI considerations and anti‑trafficking measures.
• Collaborate with consortium partners to ensure integrated, quality‑assured interventions.
• Work closely with the Security Manager to manage protection‑related security risks.
• Ensure safeguarding risks linked to law‑enforcement engagement, organized crime, community interaction and data management are continuously identified and addressed.
• Provide strategic advice during programme design, work‑plan development and SOP creation.

Required profile

• Proven experience in protection, safeguarding and gender‑equality programming within humanitarian or conflict‑affected settings.
• Strong understanding of risk analysis, anti‑trafficking frameworks and Do No Harm principles.
• Ability to work collaboratively with multiple partners and government agencies.
• Excellent analytical, communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
