Head of Risk

About the role

Plan International is seeking a senior professional to lead its enterprise risk management function in Nairobi. The Head of Risk will work within an international humanitarian organisation, providing strategic risk insight that supports the mission of improving children’s lives.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and oversee the enterprise risk management framework across the organisation.
• Identify, assess, and advise on risk exposures, translating insights into strategic opportunities.
• Support complex, strategic decision‑making by providing risk‑based recommendations.
• Enable leaders to take informed risks while ensuring appropriate mitigation.
• Communicate complex risk analyses clearly to senior stakeholders.
• Lead and manage the risk team, fostering a culture of proactive risk awareness.

Required profile

• Significant senior experience in enterprise risk management and insurance within an international organisation.
• Proven ability to support strategic decision‑making and influence senior leaders.
• Strong analytical capability and excellent communication skills.
• Effective leadership and team management experience.
• Relevant qualification in Risk Management.
