Irrigation Foreman

About the role

Our client, a leading agricultural enterprise in Laikipia County, is looking for an Irrigation Foreman to manage water delivery for fine beans and tenderstem crops. This hands‑on, field‑based role ensures accurate irrigation to protect crop quality, yield and export compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and execute irrigation schedules based on crop stage, soil moisture, weather and water availability.
• Monitor soil moisture and crop water status through field walks and moisture tools, responding to stress or waterlogging.
• Operate, inspect and maintain drip and overhead irrigation infrastructure, including pumps, filters, lines and emitters.
• Perform plumbing and mechanical troubleshooting, repair leaks and conduct preventive maintenance.
• Supervise irrigation and field teams, allocate duties, monitor work quality and train staff on safe practices.
• Manage water abstraction within permitted allocations and keep detailed records of usage and maintenance.
• Support GlobalGAP and farm safety standards, ensuring hygienic handling of equipment.
• Coordinate with agronomy, production and field management to align irrigation with other farm activities.

Required profile

• Diploma in Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering, Agronomy or a related field.
• Minimum 2 years of active irrigation or farm supervisory experience, preferably in export vegetable production.
• Experience working with fine beans and tenderstem crops and understanding their water requirements.
• Willingness to work in the field environment of Laikipa with high reliability and attention to detail.

Required skills

• Operation and scheduling of drip and overhead irrigation systems.
• Plumbing and mechanical troubleshooting of irrigation infrastructure.
• Preventive maintenance of pumps, filters, lines and emitters.
• Use of soil moisture monitoring tools.
• Knowledge of GlobalGAP compliance and agricultural safety standards.
