Markets Systems Development Associate

About the role

Inkomoko is seeking a Markets Systems Development Associate to implement its market systems development strategy in Kenya’s refugee‑hosting counties of Nairobi and Garissa. The role will support micro and small entrepreneurs by diagnosing market constraints, engaging value‑chain actors and strengthening market linkages.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct market systems diagnostics and value‑chain assessments in sectors such as livestock, solar energy, finance, logistics, agriculture, textiles, FMCG and manufacturing.
• Map and engage producers, buyers, service providers and policy influencers to identify systemic constraints and leverage points for inclusive growth.
• Maintain and update a database of enterprises, identifying high‑potential firms for scaling and crowd‑in financing.
• Oversee day‑to‑day coordination, implementation and quality assurance of MSD activities in Nairobi and Garissa.
• Monitor progress, manage risks and ensure compliance with program plans and partner expectations.
• Prepare reports and share findings with internal teams and external stakeholders.

Required profile

• University degree in economics, development studies, agriculture, business or related field.
• Experience working on market‑system or value‑chain projects in low‑income or refugee contexts.
• Strong analytical mindset with ability to translate diagnostics into actionable interventions.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
• Willingness to travel frequently between Nairobi and Garissa.
