Mortician Intern – Compassionate Mortuary Care

About the role

This internship offers a compassionate entry point into mortuary services, supporting the dignified care of deceased persons from admission to release to families. You will work alongside qualified staff to perform scientific, administrative, and emotional support tasks in a hospital setting.

Key responsibilities

• Receive and collect bodies from hospital wards and external locations, following intake procedures and maintaining chain of custody.
• Accurately record identifying details, arrival time, and source for each body in official registers.
• Perform washing, embalming, and refrigeration of bodies according to technical protocols and health standards.
• Assist qualified personnel during post‑mortem examinations, preparing workspaces, instruments, and handling specimens as directed.
• Provide grief counseling and emotional support to relatives during identification and collection of their loved ones.

Required profile

• Diploma in mortuary science, funeral services, or a related field.
• Mandatory experience in a mortuary or similar setting (experience level not specified).
• Strong attention to detail, empathy, and ability to work under emotionally challenging circumstances.
