Pharmacy Technician – Full-time

About the role

The Pharmacy Technician (Pharmtech) supports the daily operations of the hospital pharmacy, ensuring safe and accurate dispensing of medications to patients and clinical units. This full‑time, on‑site position is based in Nairobi and works under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, verify, and process prescription orders.
• Prepare, label, and dispense medications according to hospital protocols.
• Maintain appropriate inventory levels, conduct stock rotation, and check for expiry and quality.
• Assist with patient counseling under pharmacist supervision.
• Document all transactions in both paper and electronic pharmacy systems.
• Collaborate with nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to promote rational drug use.
• Adhere to legal, infection‑prevention, and hospital safety standards.

Required profile

• Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology from a recognized institution.
• Valid registration/licensing with the relevant pharmacy regulatory body.
• Minimum of 2 years experience in a healthcare or hospital pharmacy setting.
• Knowledge of pharmacology basics, dispensing procedures, and standard treatment guidelines.
• Ability to manage medication inventory, including ordering, storage, and record‑keeping.
• Competence in prescription processing, dosage calculations, and accurate documentation.
• Strong attention to detail, commitment to patient safety, and adherence to infection‑prevention standards.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills for multidisciplinary teamwork.
