Policy Associate – Migration Protection

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is seeking a Policy Associate to support its Migrant Protection and Assistance (MPA) programme. The role will contribute to the design, implementation and monitoring of policy‑related activities that promote safe, orderly and regular migration, particularly in the context of Somalia.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the development and revision of migration‑related policies, legal frameworks and guidance notes.
• Support capacity‑building and advocacy initiatives for government agencies, NGOs and other stakeholders.
• Conduct research, analysis and reporting on migration trends, protection gaps and programme outcomes.
• Coordinate with donor partners, UN agencies and national authorities to ensure alignment with the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration and the Sustainable Development Goals.
• Contribute to the preparation of project proposals, monitoring tools and evaluation documents.

Required profile

• University degree in public policy, international relations, law, migration studies or a related field.
• Relevant experience in policy analysis, humanitarian assistance or migration programmes.
• Familiarity with the Global Compact for Migration, SDGs and regional migration frameworks.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English; knowledge of Somali or other local languages is an asset.
• Ability to work in a multicultural, multi‑stakeholder environment.
