Programme Associate – WASH, Shelter & Settlements

About the role

The European Commission’s Directorate General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG ECHO) is seeking a Programme Associate to support its humanitarian response in water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), shelter and settlements. The position is based in Nairobi, Kenya and contributes to the effective delivery of relief operations.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to the appraisal, monitoring and evaluation of projects, including financial assessment of proposals.
• Review and comment on partners’ reports and field operations, reporting findings to the line manager.
• Assist the Technical Assistant in preparing fiche‑ops and other e‑documents for project assessment and monitoring.
• Support and report on meetings, providing operational advice on implementing partners.
• Draft and circulate humanitarian situation reports, including analysis of political, economic and security events.
• Produce maps and other information products of common interest.
• Accompany the Technical Assistant on field visits and act as interpreter when required.
• Assist in emergency response activities and provide surge support as needed.
• Maintain contact with DG ECHO partners, advising on major issues and acting as liaison between HQ thematic units and field partners.
• Undertake any additional reasonable tasks assigned by the Technical Assistant, Head of Office or Headquarters.

Required profile

• National staff member based in Nairobi, Kenya.
• Ability to work closely with implementing partners and DG ECHO headquarters.
• Willingness to travel for field visits and to provide surge support.
• Capacity to produce written reports, maps and other analytical products.
• Flexibility to undertake additional tasks as directed.
