Publishing Manager II

About the role

The Publishing Manager II will lead the planning, production, and delivery of ILRI’s strategic publications, including flagship reports and thought‑leadership briefs. This senior role ensures high‑quality outputs that translate complex livestock research into clear, engaging content for diverse audiences.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the end‑to‑end publishing pipeline for ILRI’s strategic documents, ensuring timeliness and quality.
• Coordinate with communications, advocacy, and research teams to package and launch publications for maximum impact.
• Review and align the publication portfolio with ILRI’s strategic objectives.
• Identify, plan, and pipeline flagship and thought‑leadership content in partnership with scientists.
• Supervise publication staff, providing performance feedback and fostering professional development.
• Manage publishing policies, processes, and guidelines to keep them efficient and fit‑for‑purpose.
• Maintain relationships with external editors, designers, photographers, translators, and other service providers.
• Conduct final quality and branding checks before public release.

Required profile

• Master’s (or Bachelor’s) degree in Journalism, Communications, International Relations, Political Science, or a related field.
• Seven years of relevant experience with a Master’s (or ten years with a Bachelor’s).
• Proven experience in a busy editorial or communications department, preferably managing people and processes.
• Ability to translate complex research findings into concise, engaging narratives.
• Strong attention to detail, prioritisation skills, and capacity to work independently.
