Regional Policy and Advocacy Lead

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking a Regional Policy and Advocacy Lead to join its East Africa senior management team. Based in Nairobi, you will shape and coordinate policy positions across Sudan, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya, and Uganda, influencing humanitarian debates at local, national, and international levels.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a regional policy and advocacy strategy in partnership with the Deputy Regional Director and Regional Vice President.
• Produce coherent policy analysis and messaging to influence key actors and enhance IRC’s impact.
• Collaborate with country program teams to provide targeted advocacy support and build their capacity.
• Coordinate with Global Policy & Solutions, Advocacy & Influence, Marketing, and Mobilization teams to align regional and organizational strategies.
• Represent IRC in regional and international forums, travel as needed across East Africa and to the US, Europe, or other locations.

Required profile

• Proven experience in policy analysis, advocacy, or related fields within humanitarian or development contexts.
• Strong understanding of East African political and humanitarian environments.
• Ability to work collaboratively with senior leaders and cross‑functional teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
