Senior Electrical Site Engineer

About the role

The Senior Electrical Site Engineer will lead on‑site supervision of electrical installation, testing, energisation and commissioning for utility‑scale solar PV and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in Eritrea. Acting as the primary technical authority, the role ensures compliance with designs, specifications, safety and environmental requirements while meeting project schedules.

Key responsibilities

• Provide daily on‑site supervision of electrical contractors and installation activities.
• Oversee installation of transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, cables, protection relays, SCADA equipment, earthing, control and auxiliary systems.
• Inspect incoming equipment and materials for damage, completeness, certification and specification compliance.
• Verify equipment positioning, cable routing, terminations, polarity, labelling, alignment, earthing and workmanship.
• Implement Inspection and Test Plans, including hold points, witness points and acceptance criteria.
• Supervise insulation resistance, continuity, high‑voltage, protection‑relay, SCADA, functional, integration and performance testing.
• Coordinate site acceptance testing, energisation, grid synchronisation, system start‑up, trial operation and final commissioning.
• Identify technical defects, issue NCRs, verify corrective actions and ensure compliance before acceptance.
• Enforce electrical and high‑voltage safety requirements, permits to work, isolation, lockout/tagout, PPE and emergency procedures.
• Maintain daily site logs, inspection records, material approvals, test results, safety records, NCRs, commissioning documentation and as‑built drawings.

Required profile

• Ability to serve as the primary on‑site technical authority for electrical works.
• Experience supervising electrical contractors on utility‑scale solar PV and BESS projects.
• Strong knowledge of electrical safety, quality standards and environmental obligations.
• Capability to monitor progress, resources, schedule performance and safety compliance.
