Senior French Reviser (364‑day contract)

About the role

The United Nations Office at Nairobi is seeking a Senior French Reviser to join its French Translation and Text‑Processing Unit. This fixed‑term position (364 days) supports the Division of Conference Services by ensuring high‑quality French language outputs for a wide range of UN documents.

Key responsibilities

• Revise and self‑translate complex, sensitive, or technical UN texts, consistently meeting workload standards and deadlines.
• Draft and revise summary records, applying rigorous quality‑control procedures.
• Utilise language‑technology tools and promote their adoption across the team.
• Identify new terminology, set terminology standards, and maintain terminology databases.
• Coach and supervise revisers and translators, assigning tasks and supporting long‑term planning.
• Conduct quality checks on external translations and develop quality‑control criteria.
• Assist the Section Chief in exam selection, marking, and policy administration.

Required profile

• Proven experience in French translation, revision, and précis‑writing within an international or UN context.
• Strong knowledge of UN terminology and procedures.
• Ability to lead and mentor a multilingual team.
• Excellent organizational and time‑management skills.

• Proficiency with language‑technology tools such as translation memory and terminology management systems.
