Senior Investment Associate

About the role

PowerGen Renewable Energy is seeking a Senior Investment Associate to join its Investments team in Nairobi. The role will lead the origination, structuring and fundraising of renewable energy projects across multiple African markets, driving the transformation of the continent’s power sector.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and prioritize new project opportunities, lead commercial and financial structuring, and design appropriate SPV and PPP models.
• Develop and maintain complex corporate and project‑level financial models, perform valuation and sensitivity analyses.
• Lead equity and debt fundraising processes with DFIs, commercial banks and private investors, managing due‑diligence and negotiations.
• Coordinate with legal, commercial and technical teams and manage relationships with lenders, governments, donors and other stakeholders.
• Support implementation and asset‑management teams, monitor portfolio performance and assist with refinancings or follow‑on capital raises.
• Prepare investment committee materials, mentor junior staff and improve internal deal‑execution tools.

Required profile

• 5–7 years of experience in project finance, infrastructure investment or related advisory roles within the power or utilities sector.
• Proven track record of leading transactions to financial close and managing multi‑country workstreams.
• Deep understanding of project finance structures, PPPs, concession agreements, PPAs and related risk allocation.
• Strong interest and preferably experience in the African renewable‑energy market.

Required skills

• Advanced financial modelling in Excel.
• Quantitative analysis and valuation techniques (DCF, comparable transactions).
