Senior Scientist – Biometrics

About the role

The World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) is seeking a Senior Scientist in Biometrics to provide scientific leadership for its forest governance research portfolio. The role is based in Nairobi and involves guiding high‑quality research, building partnerships, and securing funding for multi‑regional projects.

Key responsibilities

• Provide scientific guidance ensuring research concepts and methods meet the highest standards.
• Collaborate with theme coordinators and CIFOR leaders to define and implement emerging research activities.
• Write, supervise, and disseminate scientific publications and communications.
• Lead capacity‑building initiatives and mentor junior scientists, students, and staff.
• Represent CIFOR in national, regional, and global forums on forest governance.
• Develop and maintain constructive partnerships with stakeholders.
• Identify and secure additional funding, develop budgets, and monitor research financing.
• Coordinate donor reporting and ensure compliance with funding requirements.

Required profile

• PhD in a relevant discipline (e.g., natural resource management, social science).
• Proven experience in collaborative research across multiple regions and countries.
• Successful track record in budget management and donor‑funded project delivery.
• Strong record of peer‑reviewed publications.
• Demonstrated ability in resource mobilization, fundraising, and proposal development.
• Fluent written and spoken English; additional international language(s) an advantage.
• Experience working with diverse partners and multidisciplinary teams in developing countries.
