Sergeant – Security and Safety Services (364‑day contract)

About the role

The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is seeking a Sergeant to lead a security team within its Department of Security and Safety Service. This 364‑day fixed‑term position ensures the safety of staff, delegates, and visitors across the UN complex.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and assign daily tasks for team members during scheduled shifts.
• Provide daily work instructions, ensure uniform and equipment are issued, and monitor post coverage.
• Conduct briefings, supervise staff, and inspect duties to guarantee proper execution.
• Review routine reports from subordinates for accuracy and certify them.
• Assign investigative cases, direct complex investigations, and discuss findings with investigators.
• Enforce security and safety rules, supervise control‑room operations, and monitor electronic surveillance equipment.
• Coordinate team activities with senior officers and prepare daily and periodic reports.
• Maintain security equipment and vehicles, supervise accident response, and prepare incident reports.
• Perform preventive searches, keep plans and instructions up to date, and respond to first‑aid requests.
• Brief officers on potential threats and operational plans, and assume control of designated areas when required.

Required profile

• Proven experience in supervising security personnel and managing shift assignments.
• Ability to conduct investigations, evaluate reports, and make operational recommendations.
• Strong knowledge of UN security protocols and safety procedures.
• Excellent organizational skills and the capacity to coordinate with senior security leadership.

Required skills

• Operation of electronic surveillance and communication equipment.
• First‑aid response.
