Shipping Agent – Lamu

About the role

The Shipping Agent will coordinate and oversee vessel and cargo operations at Lamu port, ensuring timely clearance, regulatory compliance, accurate reporting and safe, efficient vessel turnaround.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate inward and outward vessel clearance with port authorities.
• Attend vessel boarding for arrival and departure formalities and ensure timely submission of documentation.
• Monitor loading and discharge activities, supervise cargo operations and track discrepancies.
• Liaise with customs, immigration, port health and marine authorities to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Maintain communication with principals, vessel masters, ship owners, charterers and service providers such as stevedores and bunkering suppliers.
• Prepare daily vessel movement reports, statements of facts and discharge/loading reports.
• Request and follow up on marine and port charges, coordinate invoice payment and document operational expenses.

Required profile

• Diploma in Shipping or Maritime Operations.
• 2–3 years of experience in shipping agency, port operations or maritime logistics.
• Proven experience working with port authorities and handling vessel clearance procedures.
• Good knowledge of port tariffs, cargo handling processes and regulatory requirements.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines and coordinate multiple stakeholders.
