Solid Waste Operator – US Navy Program

About the role

Amentum is seeking a Solid Waste Operator to support a unique US Navy program on Diego Garcia. You will operate and maintain waste‑handling equipment while ensuring compliance with environmental and safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Operate loaders, compactors, excavators, balers and other heavy equipment according to the SWMC O&M manual.
• Perform sorting, recycling, collection, transportation and disposal of solid waste.
• Conduct inspections, monitoring and routine maintenance of waste equipment and vehicles.
• Maintain site cleanliness, waste segregation and recycling preparation.
• Monitor waste collection sites and containers, reporting misuse or maintenance issues.
• Ensure personal and team safety procedures are followed.
• Maintain accurate records of waste movements to meet contract requirements.
• Support hazardous material handling and assist with environmental compliance documentation.

Required profile

• 1‑3 years of experience in solid waste operations, sanitation or waste management.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid passport (minimum 1‑year validity) and ability to travel internationally.
• Ability to pass contract medical requirements.
• Strong knowledge of environmental, health and safety standards related to waste handling.
• Effective written and oral English communication skills.
