Strategy Associate – Sustainable Finance (Kenya)

About the role

Systemiq is seeking a Strategy Associate to support its Sustainable Finance practice in Kenya, focusing on public and development finance for climate and nature outcomes. The role involves advising governments and public finance institutions to strengthen financing strategies and mobilise capital. You will work within small, collaborative teams on multi‑stakeholder engagements.

Key responsibilities

• Support or lead workstreams delivering advisory support on public and development finance for climate and nature outcomes.
• Develop structured analysis and synthesize complex information into client‑ready materials such as strategy decks, technical notes and briefing packs.
• Contribute to the design of sovereign financing strategies, considering macro‑economic context, sovereign risk, debt sustainability and credit dynamics.
• Help design and assess financing instruments including concessional and blended finance, sustainability‑linked bonds/loans, debt‑for‑climate/nature swaps and risk‑sharing structures.
• Facilitate stakeholder engagement with ministries, debt management offices, central banks, IFIs/DFIs, donors and private‑sector partners through workshops and convenings.
• Contribute to proposal development, thought leadership and knowledge building within the Sustainable Finance team.

Required profile

• A university degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s) in Economics, Finance, International Development or a related field.
• Experience in strategy consulting, public finance or development finance is desirable but not mandatory.
• Ability to work in fast‑moving, stakeholder‑heavy environments and deliver high‑quality outputs.
