Technical Operator – Utilities

About the role

Our client, a leading provider of utilities operations and maintenance services, is looking for a proactive Technical Operator to join their team in Nairobi. The role focuses on the safe, reliable and efficient operation of industrial utility systems such as boilers, pumps, compressors and steam distribution networks.

Key responsibilities

• Operate, monitor and maintain utility plant equipment to ensure safe and efficient performance.
• Record and analyse hourly operating parameters, short‑interval controls and equipment performance data.
• Conduct routine inspections of boilers, pumps, compressors, valves, oil interceptors, storage vessels and distribution networks.
• Perform first‑line preventive and corrective maintenance, ensuring all activities are risk‑assessed.
• Monitor fluid levels (water, gas, oil, heavy fuel) and escalate any abnormalities.
• Inspect and maintain burners, boiler safety controls and related protection systems.
• Identify steam leaks, energy losses and equipment performance gaps, and generate work orders for corrective action.
• Maintain accurate records of equipment failures, recoveries and operational performance.
• Support reliability, availability and cost‑optimisation initiatives and manage parts inventory.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years (36 months) of experience operating industrial utility equipment.
• Mid‑level technical competence with a proactive attitude.
• Certification in Boiler Operations/Maintenance or Equipment Calibration is an advantage.
