UI/UX Designer – Contract (Intermediate‑Senior)

About the role

We are seeking a UI/UX Designer to join a Visa‑client joint Tech Squad in Nairobi on a 12‑month contract. The role will shape customer‑facing experiences across the M‑Pesa ecosystem, delivering intuitive, build‑ready user journeys for payment, provisioning and campaign touchpoints.

Key responsibilities

• Own end‑to‑end UX delivery, including user flows, information architecture, wireframes, prototypes, high‑fidelity UI and design QA.
• Design payment and provisioning experiences for push provisioning, acquiring/payment flows and campaign interactions within the M‑Pesa app.
• Create user‑facing messaging, iconography, consent flows and visual brand elements for tokenisation initiatives, providing annotated design specifications.
• Maintain and evolve the M‑Pesa design system, ensuring reusable, documented components aligned to standards.
• Partner with Frontend Engineers during sprint delivery to validate feasibility, review implementations and track design defects.
• Collaborate with Data Scientists to make journeys analytics‑ready and ensure key interactions are measurable.
• Conduct lightweight usability testing and incorporate findings into design refinements.
• Produce handoff‑ready artefacts, including annotated designs and specifications for efficient engineering delivery.
• Support specific proposition journeys such as diaspora consumer onboarding and feature flows.

Required profile

• 5–8 years of relevant UI/UX design experience (intermediate to senior level).
• Proven ability to work in agile, fortnightly sprint teams and deliver design assets on schedule.
• Experience collaborating closely with frontend engineers and product stakeholders.
• Strong understanding of design systems, branding compliance and usability testing.
