Unit Accountant

About the role

The Unit Accountant will lead the finance and accounts team at Gelian Hotel Machakos, ensuring accurate bookkeeping and timely financial reporting. This role supports departmental heads with financial insights and steps in for the Finance Manager when needed.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and manage the finance and accounts team to ensure accurate bookkeeping and timely reporting.
• Oversee daily accounting functions including accounts payable, receivable and bank reconciliations.
• Prepare and analyse monthly financial statements, budgets and forecasts for management review.
• Monitor cash flow, revenue and expenses to maintain financial stability and cost efficiency.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, statutory regulations and audit requirements.
• Provide financial insights to departmental heads to drive profitability and operational efficiency.
• Act as the Finance Manager’s backup, offering leadership and direction to the finance function.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field; CPA/ACCA qualification preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.
• Previous experience in the hospitality industry is an advantage.
• Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting and statutory compliance.
• High level of integrity, accuracy and attention to detail.
