Child Protection Officer

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking a Child Protection Officer to lead integrated child protection programming in Kakuma refugee camp, Kenya. Reporting to the Protection Manager, the officer will focus on post‑discharge follow‑up for malnourished children, adolescent‑friendly SRHR services, and the mitigation of harmful traditional practices.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct situational assessments and collect data to shape child protection, nutrition, and health interventions.
• Develop and adapt child protection strategies, including post‑discharge protocols, SOPs, and referral pathways for high‑risk infants and adolescents.
• Facilitate safe identification and referral of at‑risk children and promote child participation in program design.
• Integrate child protection considerations into health and nutrition services and support community awareness‑raising activities.
• Provide psychosocial support and parenting assistance to vulnerable children and families.
• Collaborate closely with service providers, community stakeholders, and the technical child protection team to ensure compliance with protection standards.

Required profile

• Experience working in humanitarian settings, preferably with refugees or displaced populations.
• Knowledge of child protection principles, adolescent reproductive health, and nutrition‑related interventions.
• Strong ability to work collaboratively across sectors and with diverse community groups.
• Excellent communication and reporting skills.

Required skills

• Ability to conduct assessments, data collection, and analysis.
• Proficiency in developing SOPs, protocols, and referral mechanisms.
• Experience in coordinating multi‑sectoral protection activities.
