Communications Internship – Climate Finance Unit

About the role

The Climate Finance Unit (CFU) within UNEP’s Climate Change Division is looking for a Communications Intern to support its outreach and visibility efforts. Based in Nairobi, you will work closely with the CFU Communications Lead to develop and implement communication activities across digital and traditional channels.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in developing and executing the unit’s communications strategy.
• Draft, edit, and proofread newsletters, blog posts, press releases, social media content, and website updates.
• Design and produce visual materials such as infographics, fact sheets, brochures, and presentation templates.
• Document CFU events, workshops, and milestones through photography, note‑taking, and post‑event write‑ups.
• Maintain and update the unit’s online presence, including website content and social media accounts.
• Monitor media coverage and compile round‑ups related to climate finance, nature‑based solutions, and sustainable land use.
• Participate in internal meetings and help prepare reports and communication resources.
• Provide ad‑hoc support as needed.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or recently completed a graduate programme, or in the final year of a bachelor’s degree.
• Academic background in International Relations, Geography, Environmental Science, Energy Policy, Communications, Business Administration, or related fields focusing on climate change, sustainable development, or environmental governance.
