ICU Nurse

About the role

The ICU Nurse at Nanyuki Hospital provides high‑acuity nursing care to critically ill patients in a fast‑paced intensive care environment. The role demands strong clinical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to respond quickly to changing patient conditions.

Key responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate comprehensive nursing care for critically ill patients.
• Continuously monitor vital signs, cardiac rhythms, ventilator settings, and neurological status.
• Administer medications, IV infusions, and critical‑care treatments as prescribed.
• Operate and monitor ICU equipment including ventilators, infusion pumps, and patient monitors.
• Recognize and respond promptly to changes in patient condition and medical emergencies.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential ICU nursing documentation.
• Adhere to infection‑prevention, patient‑safety, and critical‑care protocols.
• Provide emotional support and clear communication to patients and families.
• Collaborate closely with intensivists, doctors, and multidisciplinary care teams.
• Participate in ICU audits, professional development, and quality‑improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Higher Diploma in Critical Care Nursing (Kenya Registered Critical Care Nurse) or equivalent.
• Valid Nursing Council of Kenya registration and current practicing license.
• Minimum of 2 years experience in a busy Intensive Care Unit.
• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is an advantage.
• Willingness to work flexible shifts, including nights and weekends.
