About the role
The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) is offering a PhD graduate fellowship to join its Health programme. The fellow will work on an interdisciplinary project that combines epidemiology, agentic artificial intelligence, and integrated wastewater genomic surveillance to generate real‑time decision‑support tools for public health.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the harmonisation and integration of clinical infectious disease and antimicrobial‑resistance datasets with wastewater metagenomic data.
- Map and align spatial and temporal dynamics between sewer catchment populations and health‑facility data.
- Conduct epidemiological and statistical analyses to identify associations between wastewater‑derived pathogen/AMR signals and clinical outcomes.
- Collaborate with the Genomic Pathogen Analysis Platform (GPAP) at DTU to design and implement agentic AI tools that automate data ingestion, cleaning, and analysis workflows.
- Detect anomalies, trends and early‑warning signals, and generate interpretable summaries for public‑health users.
- Contribute to the development of interactive dashboards that visualise complex data streams for decision‑makers.
Required profile
- PhD (or near‑completion) in epidemiology, bioinformatics, computational biology, data science or a related discipline.
- Strong interest in One Health research and the interface of human, animal and environmental health.
- Ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary, international team.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
Required skills
- Metagenomic data analysis.
- Statistical analysis for epidemiological studies.
- Development of AI/ML pipelines (agentic AI tools).
- Data integration across clinical and environmental datasets.
- Creation of visualisation dashboards for public‑health applications.
