Accounts Assistant

About the role

We are looking for an Accounts Assistant to join our finance team in Nairobi. The role supports the Head of Finance in maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring smooth payment processing. The successful candidate will handle daily reconciliations, month‑end closing and assist with audits and reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation and maintenance of accurate financial records.
• Post accounting transactions into the accounting software.
• Maintain the asset register.
• Execute end‑month closing procedures, including ledger reconciliations.
• Perform daily bank and M‑Pesa reconciliations.
• File taxes (Withholding Tax, PAYE, Housing Levy, etc.) and reconcile related ledger accounts.
• Support internal and external audit processes by preparing schedules and documentation.
• Prepare financial reports and conduct analysis to support decision‑making.
• Monitor compliance with accounting policies, internal controls, and statutory requirements.
• Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
• Analyze financial and operational data using statistical tools.
• Perform any other duties assigned by management.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field.
• CPA‑K or CPA finalist qualification.
• 2–4 years of experience in a payment‑intensive finance role within microfinance, fintech, SACCO or banking.
• Hands‑on experience with bank and mobile‑money payment processing and reconciliations.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles, auditing standards and financial reporting.
• High level of integrity, accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and meet strict deadlines.

Required skills

• Proficiency in SPSS for data analysis.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Experience with accounting software.
