Communication Intern

About the role

The Communication Intern will support UNEP’s climate communication activities in Nairobi. This role offers hands‑on experience in publishing, outreach, web content management and event coordination within a leading UN environment agency.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in coordinating and launching climate‑related publications and reports.
• Support outreach and distribution of UNEP reports and campaigns to partners and networks.
• Update climate‑related webpages to keep content accurate and current.
• Help plan and deliver climate‑focused events and campaign activations.
• Track communications outputs and funded deliverables for internal and donor reporting.
• Prepare meeting notes and follow up on agreed actions.
• Lead selected initiatives under supervision, leveraging personal interests and skills.
• Liaise with editorial, multimedia, social media, web and translation teams to ensure timely delivery of communication products.
• Apply basic design skills to adapt presentations, social‑media assets and other materials.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or have completed the final year of a bachelor’s degree, or a graduate programme (master’s or Ph.D.) in Communication, International Affairs, environmental studies or a related field.
• No prior professional experience required.
• Must be able to provide official proof of enrollment or graduation when requested.
