Community Development Internship

About the role

Water Mission, a Christian engineering nonprofit that provides safe water solutions, is seeking a Community Development Intern to support community mobilization, water connection processing, and stakeholder engagement across Makindu and surrounding areas.

Key responsibilities

• Support community mobilization, sensitization, and WASH promotion activities under the Safe Water Project.
• Assist the Customer Service Officer with processing and following up on household water connection applications.
• Participate in field assessments for new connections and routine monitoring visits.
• Work with Safe Water Committees and the Community Development Officer to identify expansion opportunities and attend related meetings/training.
• Support stakeholder engagement with government officials, community leaders, and water vendors to address service delivery challenges.
• Document community concerns, complaints, and agreed actions; provide progress updates and prepare meeting minutes, field reports, and other project documentation.

Required profile

• Demonstrated personal faith alignment with Water Mission’s Statement of Faith and core values of Love, Excellence, and Integrity.
• Completed an undergraduate degree in Community Development, Social Work, Sociology, Anthropology or a related field within the last year (2025) or awaiting graduation in 2026 (with a letter of completion).

Required skills

• High level of integrity and stewardship.
• Proficiency with smartphone and mobile data collection tools for recording field data.
• Detail‑oriented with strong forward‑planning ability.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and willingness to travel for fieldwork.

What we offer
