About the role

The Director, Legal Services provides strategic leadership for legal and regulatory advisory services, ensuring robust governance and compliance for the Office of the Auditor‑General.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee formulation, implementation and review of legal and governance policies, systems and procedures.
• Advise the Auditor‑General and senior management on governance frameworks and statutory compliance.
• Provide legal counsel on duties, powers and statutory requirements.
• Maintain and update the Office’s conflict‑of‑interest register and Code of Conduct.
• Guide investigations by external agencies to protect the Office’s reputation.
• Lead legal audit compliance to meet national, regional and international legal obligations.
• Manage drafting, reviewing, negotiating and execution of contracts, agreements and MoUs.
• Direct risk‑management, internal controls, business continuity and succession planning.
• Develop and implement anti‑corruption strategies and performance‑management systems.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from a recognised university.
• Post‑graduate Diploma in Legal Studies from the Council of Legal Education.
• Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and member in good standing of the Law Society of Kenya with a current practising licence.
• Minimum 15 years of legal experience, including at least three years at Deputy Director level or equivalent, preferably in the public sector.
