Director of Engineering, Implementation

About the role

OpenFn is seeking a Director of Engineering for its Services team to own solution quality, technical strategy, and delivery across its implementation portfolio. The role blends enterprise architecture, integration design, software engineering, and implementation leadership, guiding both internal and external teams to deliver public‑service automation at scale.

Key responsibilities

• Own technical architecture from pre‑sales scoping through delivery, ensuring solutions are scalable, efficient, and fit‑for‑purpose.
• Lead solution design for integration engagements, including API design patterns, data flow architecture, and deployment approaches.
• Set and uphold technical quality standards, develop engineering guidelines, and run code reviews.
• Mentor and manage a global JavaScript engineering team, providing regular feedback and career development.
• Build lasting technical capacity in country IT teams and external contributors.
• Define deployment strategies for local, offline, and sovereign‑hosting environments, partnering with DevOps.

Required profile

• 10‑15+ years of experience in solution architecture, systems integration, or technical implementation leadership.
• Proven experience managing and mentoring engineers, including regular one‑on‑ones and performance feedback.
• Ability to work remotely with a fast, stable internet connection, preferably in Africa/Europe time zones.
